March 2005 - In the wake of the
recent tsunami disaster, efforts continue throughout the country to
get relief to those affected in their time of need. There have been
countless fundraisers and charity drives organized over the past
several weeks, including one right here in our own community. Local
area elementary schools have been helping the cause; spending much
of their free time working to raise money to donate to charity. Kids
from Ridgebury, Branchville, Farmingville and Veterans Park
elementary schools in Ridgefield have been doing chores, selling hot
chocolate and even recycling, all in an effort to contribute what
they could to the masses of victims in South Asia. Ridgefield Bank
has volunteered its help, keeping a running total of the money
collected, and presenting the children with a series of checks.
After almost of a month of their tireless efforts, the schools
combined to raise $7,513.24, all of which will be donated to the
Save the Children, USA charity. While it may be difficult to
comprehend a disaster of such magnitude, for local area schools, the
decision to raise money for its relief was simply elementary.
